Job Summary: 
The Payroll Manager plays a critical role in ensuring the accurate and timely execution of payroll operations for Sumitomo Corporation of Americas (SCOA) and its U.S. subsidiaries with close collaboration with internal teams such as Benefits, Compensation, Global Mobility, HR Business Partners, as well as representatives from subsidiaries. In addition to payroll processing, the Payroll Manager assists the Payroll Director in overseeing payroll functions organization-wide, including audits, policy implementation, M&A activities, and collaboration with external consultants in IT, legal, and accounting field to payroll execution in payroll as the end results.

 

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and execute end-to-end payroll processing, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Maintain up-to-date employee records in Dayforce, including new hires, terminations, and compensation changes.
  • Ensure Dayforce reflects the most current policies, entitlements, and benefits to support accurate and compliant payroll processing.
  • Collaborate with HR teams—including Benefits, Compensation, Recruiting, and HR Business Partners—to maintain data integrity across systems.
  • Partner with the General Ledger team to reconcile payroll journal entries, accruals, and financial reports.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders such as Tax, Accounting, and subsidiary representatives to ensure seamless payroll operations across multiple entities.
  • Manage payroll for expatriates and seconded employees, ensuring tax compliance and accurate data processing in collaboration with the Global Mobility team and external accounting firms.
  • Mange the year-end tax adjustment and reporting process.
  • Assist the Payroll Director in overseeing payroll functions organization-wide, including audits, policy implementation, M&A activities, and collaboration with external consultant in IT, legal, and accounting field.
  • Generate and distribute payroll-related reports and data to other departments upon requests.
  • Assist in HR budget planning and contribute to special projects as assigned by the Payroll Director.
  • Participate in payroll-related projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to team efforts and complete assigned projects in a timely manner.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and ensure adherence to company policies and operational procedures. 

 

 

Job Specific Knowledge/Skills & Abilities


Required e
xtensive knowledge of payroll functions, including:

  • In-depth understanding of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations and implications.
  • Proficiency in payroll tax returns and general ledger reconciliations.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll internal controls and intercompany reconciliation processes.
  • Familiarity with benefit taxation and related reporting requirements.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including PivotTables and VLOOKUP functions.
  • Proficiency in payroll software, with a strong preference for experience using Dayforce
  • Strong communication and customer service skills, with the ability to effectively liaise across departments.
  • Clear and professional verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong team collaboration skills with a track record of contributing to group success
  • Self-starter with strong problem-solving skills and a systematic approach to tasks


Preferred:

  • Global Payroll experience is a plus
  • Experience in managing or supporting multiple projects simultaneously is a plus

 

 

Education, Certification and Experience: 


Required:

  •  7 or more years of experience in employee payroll Bachelor’s degree in human resources, accounting, business, or related area or equivalent experience 


Preferred:

  • Experience in Dayforce payroll system is a plus 
  • Payroll Certificate (FPC/CPP) from PayrollOrg (Formerly known as American Payroll Association) is a plus 

 

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Expected to be physically present in NY Office at least 2 days per week.
