Sr. Manager - Mineral Resources ($146,000-178,000)
Job Summary:
Based in the Denver office, the Sr. Manager of the Mineral Resources Department will lead and manage
- the evaluation and advancement of potential investment opportunities within the Non-Ferrous business across the Americas, and
- the oversight of existing assets and operations in the region, with a strong focus on both technical and financial aspects.
This role requires close collaboration with regional team members and coordination with global counterparts to contribute to the achievement of strategic objectives on a global scale. A clear understanding of the following is essential:
- The Mineral Resources Department operates in alignment with the strategic direction of the Global Non-Ferrous Metal Strategic Business Unit (SBU) of Sumitomo Corporation (SC).
- The Manager must understand the overarching strategy of the SBU and the specific role of SCOA’s Mineral Resources Department within that framework.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Management of potential investment opportunities in Americas,
- Solicit and evaluate potential investment opportunities.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with potential partners through the meeting and the conference, and other industry engagements.
- Evaluate opportunities internally from both technical and financial perspectives, by our own capabilities (technical, financial)
- Share regular updates and evaluation outcomes with the global team
- Coordinate Technical and Financial Aspects of Projects
- Serve as a central point of contact for technical and financial matters related to potential projects.
- Manage the planning and execution of due diligence processes for assigned opportunities, driving cross-functional collaboration.
- Develop and manage strategic relationships with external experts and consultants to support business objectives.
- Manage external services, including selection, contracting, and ongoing performance monitoring.
- Lead negotiation efforts and corporate approval
- Drive negotiations and contribute to the internal corporate approval process as needed.
- Management of existing business,
- Monitor business situation by analyzing any deviations from the original forecast and prepare the report accordingly for the stakeholders.
- Discuss any important issue with the partners as necessary at the place of the management committee, board meeting, etc.
Job Specific Knowledge/Skills & Abilities
Required:
- Understanding of the technical aspects of mining (basic understanding about geology, mining engineering, processing, metallurgy, environmental and social aspects, etc.)
- Skill for financial modeling (calculation of economics, analysis of logic and assumptions, analysis of financial statements, etc.)
Preferred:
- A well-established network within the mining industry
- Leadership and management skill of the large group
Education, Certification and Experience:
Required:
- Management skill of the small size of team
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Finance, or a related field.
- More than 12-year experience in the mining industry, with expertise in both technical and financial area.
Preferred:
- Degree of undergraduate or graduate in both technical and financial
- Project management experience in multiple actual investments or mining projects
- Experience working with technical consultants and financial advisors for some mining projects
Physical Requirements:
- Hybrid schedule (2 days in office and 3 days remote work)
- Prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer, as well as travelling.
